A bill (S. 544) introduced by Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) would provide tax credits for retailers who sell agricultural products to implement security provisions.
In light of a new federal law overhauling the nation’s food safety program, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has outlined its new regulatory strategy for increasing the safety of imported food. Also, the FDA released its five-year plan to guide the agency through its expanding priorities for protecting public health. See both documents for details.
The Food Safety Modernization Act is the first overhaul of the nation’s food safety system in more than 70 years. Nowhere is the legislation more ambitious than in provisions regarding the safety of imported food.
