Quick Bytes: IT Pros' Roles

By John Wagley

Information security professionals will play a more strategic role in company security in the coming years, according to a study from the London-based Information Security Forum (ISF). In the past few years, they’ve been reporting less to IT managers and more to chief risk officers, chief security officers, and chief operation officers, according to the report. Currently 5 out of 10 report to the IT director, but less than a fifth will do so in several years.

The change stems partly from the convergence of physical and information security. Companies are also placing more emphasis on risk-based strategy, according to the study, which surveyed 160 senior professionals around the world. IT professionals will also spend more time predicting future threats and less time on regulatory compliance.
