Quick Bytes: Malware Confidential

The number of unique malicious software code variants more than quadrupled in 2007, according to Symantec. Malware is also increasingly targeting confidential information. Based on information from the more than 120 million systems running its software, the Cupertino, California-based company found more than 700,000 new threats in 2007, up 468 percent from 2006. Of the top 50 threats in the second half of last year, 68 percent aimed to steal confidential information, up from 53 percent in 2006’s second half.
