I am trying to find any federal standards for video recording systems where the video may be used as evidence, but have been unsuccessful. Are there any federal standards as to content, format, period of recordings to be retained? Thanks for any info you can provide.

RE: CCTV Standars for evidentiary use of captured video
I have consulted many local subject matter experts on this topic, but have yet to find any state or federal standards for preservation of video evidence. Best practices that I have heard a consensus on is to maintain footage for 5-15 minutes prior until 5 minutes after the incident. Based on recent lawsuits that my company has had to defend, a lawyers have asked that we preserve footage from EVERY camera on the property.
I am interested in hearing what other security professionals are currently maintaining. Please let us know.
