ICx Technologiesof Washington, D.C., has developed the Illuminator, a surveillance camera with ambient illumination and near-infrared, offering a technology alternative to infrared devices for short- to mid-range use. In addition to its surveillance capabilities, the camera acts as a temporary nonlethal weapon. The camera’s spotlight, when used in its burst mode, can temporarily blind encroaching individuals within a one-mile radius. Because of its ambient illumination, it is also applicable for night vision. It is particularly useful for first responders and ports, security, and surveillance personnel as well as for border patrols.
