IcePics of Metairie, Louisiana, has introduced a new application for the iPhone that could help in preventing and solving crimes. The user simply pushes the IcePics button on the phone, and it e-mails a photograph and the location of the phone to a preselected list of addresses. Thus, a person who suspects that a crime is about to be committed—or is in progress—can quickly photograph the perpetrator and send the image and location with one discreet motion. Simply explaining the technology to the suspicious person may be enough to stop the crime, because the information is already sent, and destroying the phone won’t stop it. The app could also prove useful to people who are lost or involved in an accident.
