Schlage HandKey readers and Ingersoll Rand HandPunch terminals now employ BioCote silver antimicrobial technology to reduce the spread of microorganisms from user to user. Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies of Campbell, California, incorporates the technology into the plastics used to create the platens on the biometric hand geometry units, providing a finish that resists bacterial degradation and reduces bacterial levels on the reader’s surface. The active ingredients are incorporated during manufacturing and remain active for the life of the biometric reader.
