Fargo Electronics, Inc., of Minneapolis has introduced the HDP5000 card printer/encoder that uses the company’s patented High Definition Printing technology. The modular design of the printer gives users flexibility for updating options in the factory or field. The basic single-sided model can be updated with a dual-sided printing option and/or a dual-sided lamination module. Encoding modules are also available for magnetic stripes and certain smart-card technologies, including ISO 7816 contact smart chips; MIFARE, DESFire, and iCLASS contactless smart chips; and HID proximity cards. Cards, ribbons, and overlaminates come in cartridges that eliminate ribbon tears and load easily. The printer includes an onboard Ethernet port and print server to allow for networking, and it can be used as a standalone printer.
