Wireless Alarms

Appears in the issue.

Monitoring alarms using wireless connectivity is now possible using monitoring systems from Digitize International, Inc., of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, and wireless mesh technology from Firetide, Inc., of Los Gatos, California. Installing or retrofitting a wireless system eliminates the need for costly cabling and building managers can set up proprietary, standa-lone networks without involving IT departments. The networks offer multiple layers of security, including Wi-Fi Protected Access 2, Wired Equivalent Privacy, and AES encryption. The combined system includes an alarm monitor and receiver that manages alarm information and transmits data within the network. It also includes a remote operator interface that annunciates and catalogs all text and data at alternate locations and data-gathering modules that transmit inputs from remote locations. It can be expanded to support mass notification, video surveillance, building operation management, and access control.
