Cabinet Locks

Videx of Corvallis, Oregon, has developed an easy-to-manage access control solution for medical drug cabinets. Customers can bring electronic access control and accountability to cabinets simply by replacing the mechanical cylinder inside an existing cabinet lock with a CyberLock electronic cylinder. No wiring is required for installation. The cylinder provides key control and the ability to restrict and audit traffic to pharmaceutical cabinets. An administrator can track access to sensitive areas because both the electronic lock and the key record lock and key activity. The system includes the electronic cylinder that has no keyway to pick and the electronic key that cannot be duplicated. Each authorized user’s key can be programmed to access selected locks on specific days and times. The need for rekeying is eliminated because a lost key can be quickly blocked from the system and keys can be set with starting and expiration dates.

Data Backup

SafeData, LLC, of Warwick, Rhode Island, has announced its new backup and recovery appliance for both the IBM System i and Windows environments. SafeData Vault provides customers with both local and remote backups, so customers can recover data locally if a file is lost or a computer has been affected by a virus. If a disaster occurs, such as a flood, hurricane, or major system failure, the off-site backup assures that data can be recovered. Users can create “vaults” locally and off-site without additional expense. For one monthly subscription fee, clients can manage on-site backups and provide replicated storage off-site with full recovery to its inventory of System i and virtual Windows systems. Recovery can be accomplished in a matter of hours.

Delayed Egress

Alarm Lock Systems of Amityville, New York, has introduced the Sirenlock Model 715, an easy-to-install surface-mounted unit that prevents shoplifters from passing through unauthorized exit doors with merchandise. The device includes a deadbolt/deadlatch standard panic bar and an armored door cord for wiring. It provides 15 to 30 seconds of delay before a person can exit the door, and it has a built-in 95-decibel dual piezo alarm that alerts authorities when someone is trying to leave. In order to provide instant egress during an emergency, the delayed egress exit alarm must be connected to an existing fire system or standalone smoke detector. The unit meets UL specifications and the NFPA 1012 Life Safety Code.

DVR Upgrades

Bosch Security Systems, Inc., of Fairport, New York, has introduced new firmware and control center software for its Divar XF Hybrid Digital Video Recorder, which supports eight or 16 analog cameras and up to eight H.264 IP video streams. Divar XF Control Center Software 2.5 allows customers to integrate an unlimited number of Divar XF and Divar-2 DVRs into a single system, providing access to all recorders over IP from a single workstation. Firmware 2.5 adds advanced event handling to the Divar XF to enable alarm events to trigger actions automatically. Based on the type of alert, individual cameras will record, display, or move into a preset position. Users can program the Divar XF to switch to a specific profile when triggered by events. The free software and firmware upgrades for the Divar XF are available for download at www.boschsecurity.us.

Electronic Keys

Videx of Corvallis, Oregon, now offers two choices in rechargeable keys for its CyberLock Electronic Lock System. The Standard Rechargeable Key, intended for light duty, is comparable in size to an electronic car key. Similar in size but designed for harsher environments is the XD Rechargeable Key. These two rechargeable keys join the original CyberKey, which uses a 3-volt lithium battery that’s easy to replace in the field. The CyberLock system allows each user’s electronic key to be programmed with access privileges to allow or restrict access to specific locks at certain times of the day or week. Any organization can gain full-featured electronic access control by replacing the mechanical cylinders inside their existing locks with the CyberLock electronic cylinders. The electronic keys cannot be duplicated, and the system provides detailed audit reporting for management.
