Card Holder

The convenient One Hander Card Holder from EK Ekcessories of Logan, Utah, works like a flip cell phone. Users can flip open the face of the protective clear case to expose the ID or proximity card for scanning, using only one hand. In the closed position, a protective shield prevents unauthorized scanning of the card. The device holds up to two CAC or TWIC cards and dramatically reduces wear and tear because the card can be scanned without handling. It comes with a durable safety breakaway lanyard and is made in the United States.

Cell Phone Encryption

The Cellcrypt Enterprise Gateway enables users to securely call office desk phones from a cell phone. New from London-based Cellcrypt, the system is designed for use by senior executives traveling to hostile countries where phone interception is widespread. The software application interfaces with office phone systems and provides encrypted voice calling to BlackBerry and Nokia mobile phones running the Cellcrypt Mobile software. It also passes commands to and from phone systems via keypad tones and interactive commands to enable secure remote access to features such as conference calling. Using the IP data channel, it supports all major wireless networks, including 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, and satellite. The encryption technology is compliant with the FIPS 140-2 security standard.

Computer Security

The CHIPDRIVE MyKey is an easy-to-use smart card USB stick from SCM Microsystems, Inc., of Santa Ana, California. The compact device combines a portable, encrypted, and PIN-protected password manager with a Microsoft Windows access lock to prevent identity thieves from accessing the PC or laptop. Its password manager stores passwords on the smart card chip, where they are encrypted and PIN-protected, and thus not vulnerable to malware infecting the computer. The computer lock feature allows users to protect sensitive information when away from their computers. When the device is unplugged from the computer, the computer is locked and no one can access it, even with the password. In addition, users can store other data, including personal information, Internet addresses, and personal notes on the device for use on any computer.

Crime Index

CAP Index, Inc., announced the availability of its new 2010 CRIMECAST database, which allows users to assess crime risk at specific locations throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It produces detailed maps and reports that quickly and easily indicate crime risk scores for any location. It offers trending analysis with 90 CAP risk scores and a color-coded map that displays comparable measures of crime and loss vulnerability. Accounts can accommodate multiple users with varying levels of permission to create, store, and e-mail reports within an organization.

Document Shredders

Security Engineered Machinery of Westboro, Massachusetts, has redesigned its low-volume disintegrators for the thorough destruction of sensitive and outdated records. Models 200 and DS-200 destroy paper and other materials, including CDs and DVDs, key tape, floppy disks, audiocassettes, ID badges, and credit cards. Model DS-200 is a dual-stage unit with a built-in conventional shredder that accepts 14 sheets of paper at a time. Preshredding reduces cycle time, saves energy, and extends the life of the on-board disintegrator. Both units include a 2- by 9-inch feed opening; a new waste-evacuation, dust-collection system; and a new cabinet for quieter operation.
