Classroom Security

The A+ Audio System from Panasonic System Networks Company of America of Secaucus, New Jersey, is a device that combines classroom audio amplification with security features. The WX-LT350 infrared wireless microphone enables an instructor to be heard clearly throughout a classroom. In the event of a security incident, the instructor can push a button on the pendant microphone to send a silent alarm and to trigger video surveillance of the incident. The WV-NS202A IP camera, which would normally serve as a document camera for visual instruction, becomes a surveillance tool, instantly refocusing to a preset position for surveillance of the incident. Video captured in the classroom can be viewed on a Web browser by officials and security staff.

Gas and Flame Detection

NOTIFIER of Northford, Connecticut, has introduced three new lines of gas and flame detection products for use with its fire alarm and life safety systems. The E3Point sensors monitor toxic and combustible gases typically found in commercial building applications, such as parking garages and commercial kitchens. When unsafe levels of gases are detected, signals alert personnel and active ventilation systems through the fire protection system. The Sensepoint XCD detector monitors sites for a wide range of toxic and flammable gases. It can provide complete diagnostic, alarm, and gas concentration values from multiple sensors, and its rugged, weatherproof enclosure makes it effective in harsh environments. FD Series flame detectors monitor common flame emissions in high-risk industrial applications, including oil, gas, and petrochemical sites.

Internet-based Security

Visonic Ltd. of Bloomfield, Connecticut, has released PowerLink2, a plug-and-play broadband-IP event notification solution for advanced security and control in homes and small businesses. It can support up to 12 cameras to create a comprehensive IP-based video alarm verification solution. The easy-to-use Web interface enables service providers to offer security-related Web services, such as remote control of security systems and appliances, remote camera views, and video event messaging to e-mail and mobile phones. New features include a smaller hardware module, an improved interface that works with touchscreen mobile devices and mobile phones, improved central station reporting, remote programming of the control panel, installation diagnostics, and support of up to 12 cameras from multiple vendors.

License Plate Camera

Designed to recognize license plates at close range, the LPRB922 license plate recognition camera from Speco Technologies of Amityville, New York, sees only the license plate and ignores other background information. The pulsed infrared technology reacts with license plate material to create a sharp image, even in total darkness. Its weatherproof housing with rain guard and extendable sunshield minimizes the effect of rain and sunlight on image quality. The varifocal lens optimizes both day and night performance and captures a 10- to 27-foot field of view. It is ideal for areas where vehicles slow to travel through an entrance or into a parking lot.

Outdoor Alerts

Gamewell-FCI by Honeywell has expanded its portfolio of emergency communications systems to include wireless and hard-wired audible notification solutions for outdoor applications. High-powered speaker and siren systems, developed by Acoustic Technology, Inc., of East Boston, Massachusetts, deliver continuous tone alerts and voice announcements. Integration with Gamewell-FCI’s portfolio of in-building fire alarm and emergency communications systems creates a comprehensive, cost-effective mass notification system for virtually any facility. Custom-designed for each site, the systems provide fast, supervised communications over a choice of media, including radio frequency, IP-Ethernet, mesh radio, and satellite. The use of compact Class-D amplifiers saves space and expense by producing more sound with less power. An intuitive software interface allows users to direct recorded or live voice notifications to zoned areas.
