♦ The recent subway terrorist attacks mean Russia hasn't seen the last of its female suicide bomber problem. "Experts say that conditions in the Caucasus remain a ripe breeding ground for more women to become bombers, the 'black widows'," reports Russia Now. "Massive corruption, almost 90pc unemployment and growing Islamic radicalism combined with brutal repression by law enforcement agencies have mixed a volatile cocktail in the region." Pavel Bayev, a Caucasus expert, says that further government repression will only provoke more terrorist atrocity.
♦ President Barack Obama's concern over al Qaeda engaging in nuclear terrorism is misguided, according to three security experts. While Osama Bin Laden certainly wants nuclear material, Jonathan Schachter, Yoel Guzansky, and Yoram Schweitzer of the Institute for National Securities Studies write, there are many barriers standing in his way of acquiring it. "Threat comprises both intent and capability," the three experts remind President Obama. Instead of putting the focus on nuclear terrorism, President Obama should focus instead on nuclear proliferation issues.
♦ In three years, European air travelers may not have to worry about how much liquid they bring on a plane, reports The New York Times. By 2013, the European Union wants to eliminate the liquid restriction on passengers by installing liquid explosive detection machines. “This is about building on the experience of recent years and streamlining procedures, so that on a daily basis security controls are easier for industry to implement,” the E.U. transport commissioner, Siim Kallas, said in a statement. “For passengers, the aim is also to simplify wherever possible the necessary security controls.”
♦ You've heard of right-wing extremism, left-wing extremism, Islamic extremism, animal rights extremism, but have you heard of Sikh extremism? Well, it's making a comeback in Canada, reports The Epoch Times. Liberal MP Ujjal Dosanjh, a Sikh, was recently threatened on Facebook by Sikh extremists. On Facebook group page entitled, “Ujjal Dosanjh is a Sikh Traitor,” calls the elected official a "rat in our midst" and called on someone to "shoot him ASAP.” Dosanjh has historically spoke out against Sikh extremism and has continually paid the price for his words, according to The Epoch Times. "Dosanjh has been threatened multiple times—always after speaking out against extremism. He was badly beaten in 1985 and has also had his property attacked."
