►The U.S., Australia, Canada, and most of Europe have refused to sign an international treaty that would give governments more control over the Internet. From Infosecurity Magazine: “Some nations are seeking national control over their national parts of the internet – but they already have that, and already use it. Russia simply blocks websites it doesn’t like, Iran is reportedly developing a separate internal internet, China operates its national firewall, and Pakistan switches Twitter off and on when it wishes. But an international treaty formally giving them that right would legitimize the process, making censorship and content surveillance easier and more prevalent; and many worry that it would hasten further fragmentation of the existing world wide internet.” Read the full story here [1].

►Security officers at JFK International Airport plan to strike December 20 [2] because they say their employer, Air Serv Corp., has failed to address security concerns and workers aren’t given the basic tools to do their jobs efficiently. Officers say they have been filing complaints for more than a year. Air Serv says, “These issues have only just come to our attention this week."

►A former U.S. soldier was sentenced to 18 months in prison [3] Thursday after pleading guilty to shipping grenades from Iraq to his home back in the states. Anthony Cibelli admitted to packing the grenades in a container and shipping them to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, before taking them to New York City where they were discovered. “Authorities searched his Bronx home last December. They said they found two grenades on the roof outside his bedroom window plus four guns, two improvised explosive devices and ammunition,” the AP reports.
