The United States and Israel test a missile defense system. The New York Times looks at Twitter hackings. And more.

►The United States and Israel have successfully tested the Arrow 3 missile defense system. According to The Washington Post [1], the nations have successfully sent out an interceptor into space for the first time. The system could destroy missiles from Iran. The article reports that the system might be operational in three years.

► In the past week, such major brands as Burger King and Jeep have seen hackers wreak havoc on their social media presence by gaining control of their Twitter accounts. The New York Times takes a look [2] at how Twitter and companies are attempting to prevent future attacks. Security experts provide advice.

►This week, the Pentagon must present a plan to Congress on how it will begin to phase out the use of animals in teaching medics how to treat people injured in battle. The Washington Post reports [3] that this mandate was part of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013. The military must not only present a plan to rely on animals less in training but also must assess whether the reduction in the use of animals will affect the competency of the medical personnel. It should be noted that the law does not require that the military completely halt the use of animals for medical training.
