Police shot Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes in a tube station a day after suicide bombers failed in attacks against London.

London's Metropolitan Police Service was found guilty today of the shooting death of a man thought to be a suicide bomber, reports BBC News [1].

Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes was shot to death on July 22, 2005, in a tube station, a day after failed suicide attacks against London and two weeks after the 7/7 bombings.

According to the report:

The force broke health and safety laws when officers pursued Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes to a Tube station and shot him seven times, a jury found.

It was fined £175,000 with £385,000 costs over the 22 July 2005 shooting.

According to the prosecution, the police had 19 key failings, all of which the police contested. To read the 19 alleged key failings that led to the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, click here [2].
