A man murdered eight people with a rifle this afternoon at an Omaha, Nebraska mall and then ended his own life.


The gunman, Robert A. Hawkins, age 20, positioned himself on the third floor of the Von Maur  department store in the Westroads Mall and shot down on shoppers, according to witnesses.


A suicide note found at Hawkins' home said he wanted "to go out in style," according to the Associated Press [1]. Although no official motive has been given for his rampage, Hawkins had lost his job this week and had recently split with his girlfriend.
