When you arrive at or leave from a U.S. airport, Customs officials can search and seize your laptop and any electronic media you have - and they can hold those items indefinitely. The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) is warning of this risk, which applies to citizens of any country. ACTE advises companies to consider limiting the amount of proprietary data carried by travelers, though it acknowledges that only one percent of its more-than 2,500 members knows of someone whose laptop has been confiscated.
