A retailer can log information about the date, time, number of people involved, and the type and quantity of merchandise taken. 


ADT Security Services, Inc., of Boca Raton, Florida, has developed a software tool that allows retailers to share information about crimes to detect patterns and prevent future occurrences. A retailer can log information about the date, time, number of people involved, and the type and quantity of merchandise taken. The data is then transmitted to a central location for chainwide analysis or for sharing with other retailers, industry databases, or law enforcement agencies. The database allows retailers to respond faster and make preventative precautions more quickly. The data can also be shared with the Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Task Force at the FBI, leading to analysis of the information.
