CNN reports [1] that a Defense Department weapons system analyst and three Chinese nationals have been arrested and charged under two espionage-related cases.

In one of the cases, brought in Virginia, officials charge that:

Gregg Bergersen, 51, of Alexandria, Virginia, sold highly classified information to Tai Shen Kuo, 58, a naturalized citizen who resides in New Orleans, Louisiana. Kuo then allegedly handed the information to Yu Xin Kang, 33, a lawful resident alien also living in New Orleans. Kang in turn allegedly gave the information to a spy for the Chinese government.

In the other case, Dongfan "Greg" Chung, 72, of Orange, California, a naturalized U.S. citizen who worked for contractor Rockwell, Boeing and a Boeing contractor for more than 30 years, was accused of providing military secrets to Beijing.

In a news conference announcing the arrests, Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Wainstein cited congressional testimony [2] from Director of National Intelligence J. Michael McConnell, who told the House of Representatives in 2007 that Chinese espionage had reached levels not seen since the Cold War. Wainstein also said the spying is a threat to U.S. national security and its global economic position.
