Panasonic Security Systems of Secaucus, New Jersey, has introduced a new iris reader that provides noninvasive biometric identification and authentication. The BM-ET200 Iris Reader combines video and imaging technology with a new iris image-capture engine and dual mirror design. It is simple to configure and provides recognition in 0.3 seconds. The configuration and voice instructions make it easy for the individual to align the eyes for accurate reading of both irises. It can be used as part of a stand-alone system or integrated into a larger network. The system’s enrollment and authentication algorithm, developed by Iridian Technologies, Inc., makes a template of the iris pattern for storage in a database or on an access credential. For identification, the system compares a person’s iris pattern with those templates.
