HID Global of Irvine, California, has introduced the Fargo HDP5000 card identity system, which includes the hardware, software, and all materials needed to create secure ID cards. The Fargo HDP5000 printer/encoder uses retransfer technology for high-definition printing. It prints a reverse image on the underside of HDP film, then fuses the film to the card surface. Because the printhead never touches the card surface, the image quality is not compromised by surface or embedded electronics, and the smart chips and antennas are unaffected by the heat of the printer. Also included in the system are a USB digital camera, image capture and photo ID software, HDP film, a full-color ribbon with cleaning roller, 500 UltraCard III PVC cards, and a USB 2.0 cable. The printer carries a two-year warranty, a lifetime printhead warranty, and a year of software technical support.
