Smiths Detection of Pine Brook, New Jersey, has introduced the wearable Lightweight Chemical Detector for first responders. Already in use by the armed forces, the device offers three modes of detection: CW for the detection of chemical warfare agents, TIC for the detection of toxic industrial chemicals, and Survey for detection of residual persistent contamination following decontamination. It features a nonradioactive ionization source and a user-friendly maintenance pack, and it can be used by people who are not HazMat certified. It is supported by the company’s 24/7 ReachBack Technical Support.
