UPEK, Inc., of Emeryville, California, has launched Eikon To Go, a portable USB device that allows remote employees to access corporate network resources via fingerprint authentication. The unit offers RSA SecurID two-factor authentication technology for additional protection. The size of a standard USB flash drive, the device has a sliding cover that protects the fingerprint sensor and USB connector during transport. When coupled with the company’s Protector Suite software, it allows users to swipe a finger instead of typing usernames and passwords to log into Windows and password-protected Web sites, to encrypt and decrypt files, to switch users, and to launch applications. It can also securely store RSA SecurID software token seeds to generate one-time passwords directly from the biometric hardware.
