Absolute Software Corporation of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, has added GPS tracking to its Computrace mobile IT asset management suite. It will allow IT managers to track GPS-enabled laptops in the field to within 33 feet and view location reports using Google Maps technology. In the event that a computer is reported stolen, the system sends a silent signal over the Internet to Absolute’s monitoring center, providing critical location information. The company’s Theft Recovery Team works with local law enforcement to help recover the computer. The solution also allows users to remotely delete sensitive information for regulatory compliance, remotely inventory software licenses, and detect hardware changes or prohibited software installations.
