ASSA ABLOY Door Security Solutions of New Haven, Connecticut, has introduced a new technology for electronic door solutions that simplifies installation, service, and upgrading of a building’s security and life-safety system. The Highly Intelligent Opening (Hi-O) technology connects electronic door components together over a controller area network (CAN) data network, allowing them to communicate and monitor the opening. Hi-O enables connected devices to exchange and share encrypted information. Every device—including lock, exit device, electric strike, proximity reader, door operator, and pushbutton—is connected through a four-wire cable, with two wires for power and two for data communication. Intelligence is built into each device instead of one centralized unit, creating a plug-and-play system, so each Hi-O device will work in basic configuration as soon as it is connected.
