Here's the key to the map: purple markers are confirmed or probable swine flu infections, pink markers are suspected infections, and yellow markers mean the person came up negative for the infection. If a marker has no dot, swine flu killed that person.
According to The New York Times, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have confirmed the first American death from swine flu —a 23-month-old child in Texas.
President Obama says that schools with confirmed cases of swine flu should “strongly consider temporarily closing.”
