Chicago's multi-million dollar investment to install security cameras around the city's famous Navy Pier has started to pay off, according to The Chicago Tribune.

The 200 cameras were installed in February at a cost of $4.2 million. They feed into the police marine unit, a nearby police station and Coast Guard command center. City emergency officials said they've already paid small dividends.

Footage led to the arrest of at least one pickpocket and another person who was trying to damage a store after it had closed, said Vince Gavin, the pier's director of governmental and special operations. It has alerted emergency divers to the location of people who fall into the water, he said.
