A Long Beach, California, security guard has been charged with two felonies after breaking up a brawl outside a club in a move out of the movies, reports The Los Angeles Times [1].

Twenty-three-year-old Gilbert Fonoti was providing security at the Club Cohiba [2] when a brawl began outside the club. Unable to get control of the fight, Fonoti took out his unregistered gun and fired a warning shot into the air.

That's when Fonoti bad luck began.

The bullet traveled over a mile and struck the 49-year-old unidentified woman, who was sleeping on her deck. Fonoti, who could not be reached for comment, was arrested that night and released on bond, according to the Los Angeles County sheriff's website.

Authorities said they pursued charges after ballistics evidence reviewed by the Long Beach Police Department showed the bullet was fired from the gun taken from the defendant.

Prosecutors have charged Fonoti with "two counts of felony discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and carrying a loaded unregistered firearm," reported the Times.
