A fake ATM machine was discovered in the convention center of Las Vegas' Riviera Hotel Casino, ripping off guests and hackers attending the Black Hat andDefCon hacking conferences inside the convention center.

The machine, according to reports, was perfectly placed to avoid surveillance cameras.

Wired.com's Kim Zetter has more [1]:

A malicious ATM kiosk was positioned in the conference center of the Riviera Hotel Casino capturing data from an unknown number of hackers attending the DefCon hacker conference before someone noticed something suspicious about the kiosk.

An organizer for the conference said security authorities seized the device. It’s not known how long the ATM was in the hotel or whether it was placed there by a DefCon attendee to catch his fellow hackers or simply by an outside criminal group trying to target conference attendees.

A senior conference organizer, known as Priest, said attendees noticed the suspicious-looking machine and went in for a closer look.

"They looked at the screen where there would normally be a camera," Priest told Top News [2]. "It was a little bit too dark, so someone shined a flashlight in there and there was a PC!"
