Nearly 20 percent of all the jobs the federal government will be hiring for in between 2010 and 2012 will be security-related, reports the Washington Business Journal [1].

In security and protection, there are 52,077 projected hires in areas of intelligence analysis, international relations, foreign affairs and security administration. The most concentrated job type in the field is a transportation security officer within the Department of Homeland Security, which has 34,500 projected hires.

These numbers come from a recent survey of federal agencies by the Partnership for Public Service [2], a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring younger generations to serve in the federal government. For a complete breakdown of what security-related jobs need to be filled, click here [3].

According to the Journal, the 270,000 new government jobs to be created between fiscal years 2010 and 2012 outpaces the previous three years by 40 percent.

Since the start of the recession, the only employment sector that has seen strong job growth has been government. A recent study of federal data by the Nelson A Rockefeller Institute of Government, reported by The New York Times [4], found that state and local governments have added 110,000 jobs while the private sector has eliminated 6.9 million jobs since the recession's start.
