 The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched the first phase of its Secure Freight program.


 The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched the first phase of its Secure Freight program. DHS has installed $60 million in radiation detection equipment in six foreign ports in Honduras, Oman, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. Containers from these ports bound for the United States are now scanned for radiation and reviewed for risk factors. If radiation is detected, DHS personnel will respond along with officials from the host country. The risk factors are transmitted in real time to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents working at the overseas port and at the DHS National Targeting Center.
