The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that it will require those municipalities that have grants from the department to have interoperable communications systems implemented by the end of 2007.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that it will require those municipalities that have grants from the department to have interoperable communications systems implemented by the end of 2007. All state agencies must have such systems by the end of 2008. The department plans to work with municipalities to define interoperability issues and determine the appropriate funding level for implementing the communications systems.
