Security Monitoring Industry cannot meet the POTS sunset

AT&T have put the word on the streets that there will be no more landlines in 5-7 years. There are approx 28 million security, fire and medical alarms monitored over POTS lines and what is the industry doing about it?
Sadly, very little. They are in shock, as not longer after the POTS sunset news, we found out that 2G cellular technology will also be phased out within a similar time frame. What a mess.
