The SmartBio Sensor from Smiths Detection of Edgewood, Maryland, now has increased sensitivity and enhanced software to detect airborne biological microbes and biotoxins, with active monitoring and classification to help protect against biological threats. The battery-powered sensor is portable and rugged, so it can be used to proactively protect public venues, including perimeter monitoring for indoor and outdoor events. The system continuously samples air, trapping biological particles on a sensor surface. The onboard computer then detects and classifies the materials, triggering an alarm if a potential threat is discovered. Agents are retained for confirmatory analysis and archiving.
