***** The Ethics of Terrorism: Innovative Approaches from an International Perspective. Thomas Albert Gilly et al., editors; published by Charles C. Thomas Publisher Ltd., www.ccthomas.com; [1] 235 pages, $62.95.

The Ethics of Terrorism is a comprehensive reference consisting of 17 lectures by renowned academics and professional police managers from around the world. Its introduction rightfully warns that the text does not provide simplistic answers. Representing the United States, Russia, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, India, Israel, Latvia, Turkey, and Australia, the contributors have extensive teaching and writing experience and offer solid analysis of this complex topic.

The lectures’ subject matter ranges from ethnicity and community in India, Australia, and the United States to western-Muslim clashes, applied ethics, political and social ethics, and the ethics of religion and terrorism. Even though the lectures deal with specific countries, the general analysis and understanding of concepts can be applied to almost all facets of terrorist activity and study. Each lecture includes an initial overview of the specific lecture as well as a reference section for further study.

The book is aimed at advanced undergraduates or graduate students and is not targeted toward the casual reader. However, a general security practitioner may find the writings of interest. As an academic reference, the book is a well-organized study of a complex subject and is highly recommended.
