- At Tuesday’s luncheon, the new Board Management Committee of the ASIS Board of Directors for 2012 was announced by ASIS Chairman of the Board of Directors Joseph Granger, CPP. “The Board met yesterday…and elected to the office of secretary Dave N. Tyson, CPP, of Apollo Information Systems,” Granger told the audience.

Exhibitors Host Press Conferences

- The press room at the Orange County Convention Center was buzzing with the latest announcements from top security companies. Executives took time out from the Exhibit Hall floor to talk to members of the media during press conferences held throughout this week. Here are a few of the highlights from press conferences held on Monday and Tuesday.

Women In Security

- We’ve all heard the injunction to “commit random acts of kindness.” In a Tuesday morning breakfast address to the ASIS International Women in Security (WIS) group, Susan Mazza urged attendees to commit “random acts of leadership.” Her point was that leadership need not be demonstrated by reaching for lofty goals, but that it can be exhibited by simple acts that are easily accomplished.

ASIS Opens 57th Annual Seminar and Exhibits By Commemorating 9-11

- In an appropriate break with the tradition of boisterous and high energy opening ceremonies, the ASIS International 57th Annual Seminar and Exhibits kicked off with a reflective and somber review of the events of 9-11, including tributes to the ASIS members who died in the collapse of the Twin Towers.

- A crowd of security professionals eager to earn a new certification gathered in Orlando before the official launch of the ASIS International 57th Annual Seminar and Exhibits to attend review courses. Those hoping to earn a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), or Physical Security Professional (PSP) designation attended the reviews at the Peabody Orlando.

- Sunday night’s receptions for young professionals, new members, and other attendees provided a great way for attendees to greet old friends and make new ones prior to the official start of the ASIS International 57th Annual Seminar and Exhibits in Orlando.
