What is Security management software?

Security Management Software for networks is different for all kinds of situations. A small home or an office would only require basic security while large businesses will require high maintenance and advanced software and hardware to prevent malicious attacks from hacking and spamming.

Is this like an anti-virus, or way level-up than that?  For security management systems, how can we be assured as clients that the software itself will not hack our contents and company information?  Recently we subscribed to an order management software, and was very pleased with the results.  Because of the huge orders we take, and the fact that it is an online transaction, we are now seeking for security software to protect our data.
